Sharna Hupfeld
Tell us a little bit about yourself
My name is Sharna, I’m 27 and I live in a creek side cottage in Currumbin with my partner Tommy & puppy Daisy. I am an avid op-shopper ... I love to fossick for vintage treasures and inspiration. I’m a creative and intuitive soul, a lover of nature, animals, good people & good music! Oh and I own swimwear & clothing label @salte_designs. 🌈👙🎨
What inspires you when creating?
Everything! Travel, road trips, nature, sunshine, vintage florals, a tile on a wall, an old photograph, literally anything. Every collection I’ve designed has been inspired by different things. I once designed 19 prints when I arrived back to Australia after traveling around South East Asia for 2 months. I’m currently designing a collection inspired by a tea towel my lovely little Nanna gifted me from the 1960’s. Inspiration flows from everywhere. I just have to embrace it when I feel it.. and not be hard on myself when I don’t. 🥰
Why did you create Salté?
I was 22 at the time, and was designing prints and textiles for multiple labels in Australia. I had worked in the industry since graduating from University, and one day I was just like... hmm I want to do this myself. I guess my love for bikinis and the ocean, along with my adoration for textile design went hand in hand!
What does self love & self care mean to you?
Self care & love means the world to me now. 🌍 I’ve grown to be pretty darn good at it in the last couple of years. In my eyes practicing self care is pretty simple ~ making time for myself to do all the things that rejuvenate me, and make me happy.
A long walk, diving into the ocean, watching the sunset with a slice of pizza in hand, being present, setting boundaries such as... not answering emails and DM’s after 5pm, and saying no to partying and things I don’t necessarily enjoy. It feels good!
What is the most powerful quality someone can have?
Empathy & kindness. Someone who puts themselves in others shoes, listens & acts kindly towards all living beings. That is powerful. 🧡
If you could give your younger self any advice, what would you say to her?
I guess I’d tell myself that not everyone is going to treat you kindly in life... and that’s not a representation of you. Everyone is fighting their own battles, so it’s important to always be kind. 🌈
What are you grateful for?
Little and big, there’s just so much that I am grateful for. My relationships with my family, my friends, my puppy, my Salté tribe and Tommy (he’s my cheerleader and absolute rock.) I will always be forever grateful for our beautiful earth... the ocean, the sun, wild flowers, trees, everything! We live in one of the best countries on earth. I am so grateful to live in Australia.
Tell us something that brought a smile to your face recently
My 1 year old nephew was pointing to the moon, and I asked him if he’d like to reach for it. He put his arms up and I picked him up and we both tried to touch the moon. It was so sweet. I love my niece and nephews so much ~ they constantly make me smile. 🌙
