I honestly think my journey with my self worth and body acceptance is the greatest challenge I’ve faced. I was always told growing up that my body is wrong and so have had this core belief that I need to change to be beautiful. My teen years were so confusing and I found it so hard to find the beauty in myself. I really fell victim to diet culture and dabbled in disordered eating and all the ideals that we know today as diet culture.
Only more recently have I felt strong enough, and proud enough of myself, to be able to share my vulnerability with others. I think this is something I am most proud of. Releasing 'Best Shot' really signifies this desire and ability to speak openly and freely about my mental health, and this is really huge for me.
I have battled with PTSD and anxiety over the past year and I can happily say I’m in a pretty solid place right now through acknowledging what my body and mind needs, and going to therapy. I think mental health used to be something that was extremely taboo to talk about, however there are so many incredible people breaking down those barriers and making everyone feel more comfortable about talking about it.
Don’t be afraid to try out new genres (I had no idea how much I loved crime and psychological thrillers) or abandon books you aren’t loving or invested in. Most of the time I’ll know if a book is for me or not within the first few pages so keep trying until you find it. You can also start small by allocating 30 minutes to an hour a day, or reading during your lunch break instead of scrolling!
I uploaded my first single to triple j Unearthed when I was 16 and ended up becoming a finalist in Unearthed high which is where I guess everything kicked off for me, it was a super exciting time in my life! I’ve been lucky to be continuously releasing since I was super young and it’s provided me with such an amazing and fun career touring all around the world!
